Wukari Community Raises Alarm Over Cultism Activities Around Federal University

 

The Wukari community in Taraba State has raised concern over the rising cases of cult-related activities and criminal behaviour around the Federal University Wukari, calling for urgent intervention by relevant authorities.

 

The concern follows a violent incident that reportedly occurred on March 14, 2026, during sign-out activities at the institution, an act the community strongly condemned.

 

In a statement issued by the Secretary of the JukunYouth and Cultural Development Association (JYCDA), the community described the development as a threat to lives and peaceful coexistence between the university and its host environment.

 

The group warned that cultism, violence, and intimidation would not be tolerated in Wukari, urging those involved in such activities to desist or face legal consequences.

 

While acknowledging that the university management is responsible for maintaining order within the campus, the community stressed that it would not allow criminal activities to spill into the wider Wukari area.

 

The community called on security agencies to increase surveillance and enforcement around the university and surrounding areas to curb the trend.

 

It also urged the university authorities to strengthen internal disciplinary measures and intensify awareness campaigns to discourage cultism among students.

 

Parents and guardians were advised to guide their children and wards properly and discourage them from engaging in activities that could endanger their future.

 

Residents, landlords, youth groups, and local vigilante members were also encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies.

 

The community reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring that Wukari remains a safe environment for learning, business, and development.
