Rotary Club donates wheel chairs to disabled persons, Gets New President In Jalingo

The Rotary Club of Jalingo Prestige, Taraba State has inaugurated Rotarian Clement Giwa as its new President.

 

At the investiture Ceremony of Rotarian Clement Giwa, the 4th president of the Club, and Fund Raising for the Club's Projects,  the Club also donated about 15 hand power tricycles to some disabled persons in the state and awarded some personalities who have contributed immensely in the business of touching lives across the state and beyond.

 

 Speaking at the occasion, the outgoing President of the Club, Rotarian Jerry Oliver said that the club under his leadership, engaged in so many life touching projects including the donation of hand powered tricycles to disabled persons and contributing immensely to the polio vaccine given to children across the state among several other interventions.

 

He  encouraged the newly inaugurated President  to always spread his projects across the four way-tests of Rotary which include truth, fair to all concern, building goodwill, better friendship and beneficial to all concerned.

He pledged to work closely with him and all members of the club to enable the president succeed in his leadership, pointing out that "rivalry is not in the character of Rotary Club".

 

Rotarian Jerry identified religion and other misconceptions by different people as the major issues bedeviling the club over the years.

 

"The issues we face in this part of the country are basically the misconceptions about Rotary Club. While our Muslim friends see it as a Christian Organization, other Christians or non-Christians see it as a cultist group. This is completely an erroneous belief. Rotary is a service organization that provides services to humanity. That is why our slogan is Service Above Self. You serve humans more than you can serve yourself.

 

"Because of all these challenges, the funds that would have come into the club from friends and well wishers don't come because, as you know, it is only what you believe in, that you turned to put in your money. Those who don't believe in Rotary don't bring in their money in the club. But the mistake they are making is that, certain things that would have been taken care of in our society by the Rotary Club are left untouched". He stressed.

 

In his speech, the newly inaugurated President, Rotarian Clement Giwa, appreciated members of the club for giving him the mandate to lead them and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him.

 

"I earnestly call upon each one of you to stand behind our "Fostering Hope and Unity" initiatives. Armed with unyielding optimism, we stand firm in our belief that a more promising world lies ahead. Drawing wisdom from the annals of history while treasuring the present moment, hope becomes our guiding star, alleviating the burdens of today. As the incoming President, I am committed to infusing our endeavors with unity and unwavering resilience". He stated.

 

Earlier, the chairman of the occasion, Dr John Ngamsa and the House of Representative Member representing the Donga, Takum, Ussa and Yangtu Development Area of Taraba State, Hon. Mark Useni, all congratulated the newly inaugurated President and lauded the focus and responsiveness of Rotary Club towards serving humanity, pledging that they would not relent in supporting the club in their little ways to enable it continue touching lives in the society.

 

 

Hon. Muhammed Bello was presented an Award in recognition of his humanitarian services. Hon. Emmanuel George receives the award on his behalf. Our reporter who witnessed the inaugural ceremony reported that the investiture ceremony featured a paper presentation on "Harnessing Taraba Economic Potentials Through Agriculture and Tourism by Mr. Zanau Hassan Maikasuwa. There was the Launching of Save Education Campaign in Taraba State by the Rotary Club of Jalingo Prestige and fund raising for the Club's Projects.

 

Awards were also presented to some distinguished personalities including the House of Representative member representing the people of Donga, Takum, Ussa and Yangtu Development Area Hon. Mark Useni, Bala Muhammed from Nexim Bank and Festus A. Kayode SAN among others for touching lives positively across the state and beyond.
