Fresh Leadership Crisis Rocks NULGE In Taraba

Members of the National union of Local Government Employee (NULGE) in Taraba state chapter are angry over a directive stopping them from electing a new chairman recently, alleging plots to impose a new chairman on the union.

The Union was billed to hold its election in Wukari on 8^th of September 2023 following the appointment of its chairman Comrade Noseh Luka as Commissioner of Works by Governor Agbu Kefas.

Sources said the crisis started when some top politicians in the state started dropping Governor Agbu Kefas's name to interfere with the election process and activities of the Union.

"We were going to have our election in Wukari and our National Officers from Abuja to conduct the election had arrived in Jalingo but they were served with a letter that the election could not be held due to insecurity. But the members of the Union were told the Governor wanted to meet with them  

"A ranking lawmaker of the State Assembly from Central zone claimed Governor Kefas is interested in who becomes the chairman of NULGE and that the Governor had directed that the election should be suspended indefinitely but we suspect that they wanted to impose one Maigoge from Bali Local Government as Chairman of the Union," the source told Taraba Truth and Fact newspaper.

Another Source said efforts are being made to stop the current acting NULGE chairman Comrade Yakubu Tanko Burga from Ibbi Local government from emerging as the state chairman.

"The brewing crisis in NULGE is because some people don't want  Comrade Yakubu Tanko Burga to emerge as the state chairman of the union, because it was clear he was winning the election if it was held that day."

 A member of the Union wondered why the election was stopped at the last minute after all preparations were perfected.  

"They should allow us to go and do our election, this is a union of staff organized to help themselves, we don't want imposition of leadership, let the union decide its leadership, those using Governor Kefas name to cause confusion in NUGLE should be called to order.
