Construction of Mayo-Ranewo Road to Commence Immediately
The construction of the long-awaited Mayo-Ranewo Road in Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State is set to commence immediately as contractor handling the project has received directives from Governor Agbu Kefas to move to site.
Governor Kefas, has awarded the contract for the construction of the Mayo-Ranewo Road in Ardo-Kola Local Government Area, with the project expected to open up rural communities and unlock their agricultural and commercial potential.
The development follows persistent calls by residents for the rehabilitation of the road, which has remained a major challenge to the movement of people, agricultural produce and other goods in the area.
The road is expected to connect Mayo-Ranewo with several communities in Ardo-Kola and neighbouring Karim LamidoLocal Government Area, including Kiriga, Nahuta, Binnari, Belango, Wurojauro, Bomanda, Jukun and Andamin.
The route also provides an important link towards Plateau, Bauchi and Gombe states, potentially improving the movement of goods and services across the region.
A major beneficiary of the project is expected to be the fishing economy around the River Benue and surrounding natural ponds.
With improved road access, fishermen and traders in Mayo-Ranewo and neighbouring communities are expected to have easier access to markets, reducing the difficulties associated with transporting fish and other aquatic products.
The road is also expected to open up dry-season farming areas in Leringel, Nahuta, Binnari and Belango, allowing farmers to move vegetables and other perishable agricultural products to major markets more efficiently.
The project could equally improve access to the Andamin cattle market, regarded as one of the major cattle markets in Taraba State, by providing a smoother route for the movement of livestock from the market to the main road.
The development comes after residents of Mayo-Ranewo raised concerns over the condition of the road during a live political programme, Demokoradiya a Yau, on Rock FM 92.3 Jalingo last week.
Governor Kefas personally called into the studio and assured the residents that construction of the road would commence before the end of the year.
Following the governor's directive, the Hon. Member representing Ardo-Kola State Constituency, Hon. Happy Joshua Shonruba, continued engagements on the project and met with the contractor handling the work.
The project manager of CCECC, Mr. Pam, reportedly confirmed that the company had received instructions from Governor Kefasto commence construction immediately and ensure completion before December 2026.
Beyond the road, plans are also reportedly underway for the construction of a modern fish market in Mayo-Ranewo, as well as the provision of fishing boats and other support for fishermen.
A former lawmaker and farmer Hon Tanko Bobbo said proposed interventions are expected to strengthen the fishing value chain, create employment and increase commercial activities in the community.
For residents, the Mayo-Ranewo Road is therefore more than an infrastructure project. It is expected to serve as a major economic corridor connecting farmers, fishermen, traders and livestock businesses to wider markets.
He intervention also underscores the Kefas administration's focus on opening up rural communities through infrastructure and linking local economic activities with markets within and outside Taraba State.
