Taraba, FG Flag Off Fertilizer, Farm Inputs Distribution for 2026 Wet Season

The National Agricultural Development Fund, under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in partnership with the Taraba State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, has commenced the distribution of fertilizers and other farm inputs to farmers across the state for the 2026 wet farming season.

The official flag-off ceremony took place at the premises of the State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Jalingo, with farmers from various commodity groups in attendance.

Items distributed include granular fertilizers such as NPK and Urea, knapsack sprayers, certified maize and soybean seeds, herbicides, and liquid fertilizers.

Farmers were urged to make effective use of the inputs, especially as they are being provided at the appropriate time for the farming season.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Taraba Seeds Limited, Dr. Dileep Kumar Guntuku, emphasized the importance of improved seed varieties in boosting productivity and competing in the global agricultural market. He encouraged farmers, particularly those in Lau Local Government Area and its environs, to take full advantage of the intervention and take ownership of the programme.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Prof. Nicholas Namessan Bandawa, also announced that the sum of ₦50,000 would be disbursed to each of the 2,000 targeted smallholder farmers across the state to support their farming activities.

Representatives of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security advised beneficiaries to use the inputs judiciously, warning that security agencies would monitor and track any attempt to divert or sell the items.

Leaders of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria and the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria in Taraba State commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his continued support to farmers, assuring that the gesture would be reciprocated through increased productivity.

They noted that with such interventions, farmers are better positioned to contribute meaningfully to food security in the state.

Meanwhile, it was disclosed that another round of disbursement under the National Agricultural Growth Scheme–Agro Pocket (NAGS-AP), in collaboration with the Bank of Agriculture, is expected in the coming months.
