A coalition of academics, scholars, researchers and professionals in Taraba State has declared support for the re-election of Governor Agbu Kefas and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

The group, known as the Coalition of Taraba Academics for Continuity and Development (CTACD), made its position known at a meeting held at Yukuben Hotel Hall in Jalingo.

Professor David A. Agbu, Esq., of the Faculty of Law, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, is the National President of the coalition, while Professor Mahmood Hamid Umar serves as Vice President.

The coalition said its decision was informed by what it described as the need for continuity in governance and consolidation of development programmes at both the state and federal levels.

In its formal notification to Governor Kefas, the coalition said it comprised academics, scholars, researchers and professionals committed to advancing Taraba through good governance, educational and human-capital development, peace, infrastructure, economic growth and democratic participation.

The academics said they had followed the programmes and initiatives of the Kefas administration and believed that continuity would provide an opportunity to consolidate and expand development policies they considered beneficial to the people.

The coalition said it had resolved to support the governor through “peaceful, lawful and democratic means” while contributing its intellectual and professional resources to the development of the state.

It said its activities would include academic conferences, public lectures, policy dialogues, research, publications, public enlightenment and constructive engagement with stakeholders.

According to the coalition, its involvement would go beyond political mobilisation, as it intends to provide a platform for academics and professionals to contribute research, ideas and expertise to public policy and sustainable development.

The group also declared support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, aligning the position with its broader advocacy for continuity and development.

The academics said they would promote evidence-based assessment of government policies and encourage informed participation in the democratic process.

They further maintained that the intellectual community had a responsibility to contribute to the development of Taraba and pledged to deploy their expertise towards what they described as sustainable development of the state.

The coalition said it looked forward to a constructive relationship with the Taraba State Government while maintaining the academic and professional character of the organisation.
