A political clash between rival groups of youths in Majidadi Ward, Jalingo, Taraba State, has reportedly left one person dead following an alleged knife attack during a rally in support of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to Taraba Truth and Facts Newspaper said the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon after a rally organised in support of Engr. Sadiq Tafida Abbas, the APC candidate for Jalingo, Yorro and Zing Federal Constituency, and Hon. Uba Usman Mairiga, the party’s candidate for Jalingo II State Constituency.

According to the eyewitnesses, the rally proceeded peacefully until participants left the area around the Emir’s palace, where a disagreement reportedly broke out between youths from Anguwan Yan Kifi and Anguwan Mafindi Transformer, both within Jalingo II.

The eyewitnesses told Taraba Truth and Facts that the disagreement centred on a banner bearing the slogan “No More Tazarce,” a Hausa expression commonly used in political discourse to oppose an incumbent seeking another term in office.

They said the slogan allegedly triggered an argument between members of the two groups, which escalated into a physical confrontation.

During the clash, a young man identified as Shamsuddeen Adamu Mali, who eyewitnesses said attempted to intervene and reconcile the groups, was allegedly stabbed twice in the chest.

He was reportedly rushed to a hospital for medical attention but later died from his injuries, the eyewitnesses told the newspaper.

However, the identity of the alleged attacker and the full circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing could not be independently established at the time of filing this report.

The incident occurred amid increasing political activities in Jalingo ahead of the 2027 general elections, raising concerns about the potential for political disagreements and campaign slogans to trigger violence among supporters.

The eyewitnesses urged political supporters to exercise restraint and avoid confrontations over campaign messages, stressing the importance of peaceful political engagement.

As of the time of filing this report, an official account from security agencies regarding the incident was not available.
