Taraba Flags Off 2026 School Tree Planting Campaign in Jalingo

The Taraba State Government, through the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, has officially flagged off the 2026 School Tree Planting Campaign at the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Jalingo.

The event attracted top government officials, education stakeholders, and environmental advocates, including the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Aishat A. Barde; Commissioner for Secondary and Vocational Education, Hon. Augustina Godwin; Chairman of Jalingo Local Government Area, Mr. Nura Dantsoho; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Mr. Ayuba Aminu; Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, Mr. Agbadu Tafarki; Chairlady of the FGGC Old Girls Association, Mrs. Susan Noku; Dr. Zainab Hero, as well as school management and students.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Aishat Barde urged students and school authorities to take ownership of the trees planted, stressing the importance of environmental protection and sustainability.

Also speaking, Hon. Augustina Godwin commended the initiative and encouraged students to combine academic excellence with responsible environmental practices.

In her welcome address, the Principal of FGGC, Mrs. Rose Sule, described the campaign as timely, noting the increasing impact of climate change and the need for proactive measures.

Other speakers, including Mrs. Susan Noku, Dr. Zainab Hero, Mr. Nura Dantsoho, and Mr. Agbadu Tafarki, applauded the initiative, with Mr. Tafarki donating seedlings to support the exercise.

In his closing remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Ayuba Aminu, described tree planting as a critical nature-based solution to climate change and assured that the Ministry would monitor the planted seedlings to ensure their growth and survival.

The event featured a symbolic tree-planting exercise led by dignitaries, during which 160 seedlings were planted.

The campaign is aimed at promoting environmental consciousness among students, expanding green spaces in schools, and contributing to climate change mitigation efforts across Taraba State.
