Gov. Agbu Kefas Commissions 5km Ibi–Nwunyo Road, Says Tinubu Direct Immediate Resumption of work on Abandoned Ibi Bridge project

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has commissioned the newly completed 5-kilometre Ibi–Nwunyo Road, while also disclosing that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate resumption of work on the long-delayed Ibi Bridge project.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Kefas said the President had instructed the Federal Ministry of Works to urgently re-engage the contractor handling the bridge and ensure a return to site without delay. He explained that the matter was raised during a recent meeting with Tinubu shortly after the Nwunyo Fishing Festival, prompting swift federal intervention.

The Governor described the newly constructed road as a strategic project designed to improve access to the Nwunyo Fishing Festival grounds, enhance connectivity, and stimulate economic activities in the area. He noted that the road would ease movement for residents and visitors alike while boosting commerce and tourism.

Kefas reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, security, and overall progress across Taraba State, stressing that such projects are central to his government’s development agenda.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary overseeing the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Samuel Lauya, said the road addresses longstanding challenges associated with accessing the festival venue, particularly during peak periods. He added that the project, awarded in March 2026 at a cost exceeding ₦3 billion, forms part of broader efforts to upgrade infrastructure across the state.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of Mould Nigeria Limited, Engr. Samuel Oyafemi, expressed appreciation to the state government for the opportunity to contribute to development, while the Chairman of Ibi Local Government Area, Hon. Emmanuel Ubandoma, described the road as a catalyst for economic growth and a boost to the cultural significance of the festival.

The commissioning ceremony featured colourful cultural displays, reflecting the rich heritage of the area and adding a celebratory atmosphere to the event.
