APC Defection: No Rift between Gen. TY Danjuma, Gov Kefas - Family Sources

 

Family sources have dismissed rumours of a rift between elder statesman, General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd), and Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, following the governor's recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

 

Multiple members of the Danjuma family told Taraba Truth and Facts that the relationship between the two men remains "warm, cordial and unchanged," contrary to speculations circulating within political circles in the state.

 

A close family member who spoke to this newspaper said General Danjuma has not expressed anger or displeasure over Governor Kefas' political decision. Instead, the source noted that the governor continues to maintain regular contact with the elder statesman.

 

"General is not angry with Governor Kefas. Their relationship is as cordial as it has always been," the family member said. "The governor carries him along on state matters and still seeks his fatherly advice whenever necessary."

 

The source further dismissed claims that the General would withdraw support for Governor Kefas ahead of the 2027 elections due to the defection.

 

"It's not true that General will not support Governor Kefas because he joined the APC without his approval. Who told you he didn't support the move? People are just peddling rumours and political permutations," the family insider added.

 

According to the family, General Danjuma remains non-partisan and open to all political stakeholders. He reportedly receives visits and consultations from leaders across party lines and has not endorsed or rejected any candidate for the coming election.

 

The speculations of a strained relationship grew stronger after the newly appointed PDP National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, visited General Danjuma at his Lagos residence, prompting assumptions that the elder statesman was tilting away from the governor.

 

In reinforcing their long-standing ties, the governor recently led a powerful delegation to celebrate General Danjuma's 88th birthday. The delegation included the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, federal and state lawmakers, traditional rulers, and other prominent personalities who honoured the General's contributions to the state and the nation at large.

 

Yesterday, Governor Kefas again joined General Danjuma in Lagos to commission the TY Logistics Park FZE, a major facility recently completed by TY Holdings in Alaro City.

 

After the event, Governor Kefas publicly celebrated the elder statesman, stating: "We appreciate our own General TY Danjuma for all he has done for Taraba and Nigeria in general."

 

Family sources insist the bond between both men remains intact and strong, stressing that political interpretations are being exaggerated by those "reading too much into normal political engagements."
