WAKE-WAKE Association Condemns Assault on Mayo Gwoi Councillor

The Wake-Wake Association of Taraba State has condemned the reported assault on the Mayo Gwoi Councillor, Hon. Murtala Riki Riki, during the Northern Taraba Town Hall meeting with Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Umar Sani Bello, the association described the incident as "unfortunate and shameful," stressing that such violence undermines the essence of a forum designed to promote dialogue and development.

According to the group, the attack exposed a failure in security arrangements at the event, which it noted fell under the responsibility of the Chief Security Officer of the state.

The association further called for the constitution of a strong and neutral investigative committee to probe the role of the Jalingo Local Government Chairman, who has been accused of complicity in the assault.

"To ensure transparency and avoid undue influence, we urge His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas, to direct the Jalingo Local Government Chairman to step aside pending the conclusion of the investigation," the statement read.

The Wake-Wake Association emphasized that violence and intimidation have no place in a democratic setting, insisting that the people of Taraba deserve leaders who uphold peace, accountability, and the rule of law.
