Governor Agbu Kefas Signs Sports Commission, Youth Development Bills into Law

Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has signed into law two key legislations passed by the State House of Assembly — the Taraba State Sports Commission Establishment Law No. 10 of 2025 and the Taraba State Youth Development Agency Law No. 11 of 2025.

The signing ceremony took place on Monday at the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo.

The Taraba State Sports Commission will be responsible for overseeing and regulating sporting activities across the state, while also promoting physical, mental, social, and economic benefits for citizens and the state at large.

The Taraba State Youth Development Agency, on its part, is designed to create a structured platform for addressing the needs, aspirations, and challenges of young people in Taraba. Its core objectives include empowering youths through education, training, and skills acquisition, encouraging entrepreneurship and job creation, and enhancing youth participation in governance and decision-making.

Speaking shortly after assenting to the bills, Governor Kefas commended the State Assembly for its cooperation and commitment to the development of Taraba. He praised the ongoing reforms in the legislature, describing them as aligned with his administration's vision of transforming the state into a hub of growth and opportunity.

The Governor further underscored the importance of checks and balances, stressing that effective collaboration between the executive and legislative arms of government remains vital for sustainable progress.

Earlier, the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Kizito Bonzena, described the establishment of the new agencies as a significant step forward. He noted that sports and youth development are critical tools for fostering unity, integration, and positive engagement among young people.

The enactment of these laws, observers say, highlights the state government's strong commitment to youth empowerment and the promotion of sports development in Taraba.
