Rotary Club of Jalingo Get New President, Pledge More Humanitarian Projects


 

The Rotary Club of Jalingo Prestige has held her second investiture ceremony to mark the official takeover by the Change Maker President Rotn. Jerry Oliver, PHF in an event colored with glamour.

The event which took place at the Gym Hall, Jolly Nyame Stadium, Jalingo, had in attendance were dignitaries from across the Northeast, Benue and Taraba state.

Members of the Rotary Club from Adamawa, Gombe and Benue States were also present to witness the ground breaking event which featured among other programs Fund Raising for Club Projects, Awards Presentation, and Launching of its "Save Education Campaign" Stickers .

Notable among the dignitaries present at the occasion were the Special Guest of Honour, His Excellency Engr. Haruna Manu the Deputy Governor of Taraba State ably represented by Chief Dr. Philip Danladi Duwe (Suman-Takum), The Royal Father of the Day HRH. Augustine Njenmang Vengkani, Kuru Kona, Permanent Secretaries, Heads of State Agencies and many others.

The Outgoing President of the club Rotn. Budi Garsheya Yusuf gave his speech conveying his sincere appreciation to all the attendants and every guest who honoured their invitation to this historic event.

He said, " I wish to convey my sincere appreciation to all of you for making it to this historic event of the Second President's investiture of the Rotary Club of Jalingo Prestige even as we ramp up an eventful 2020/2021 and shift our momentum into the next Rotary year 2021/2022. The last few months was marked by notable worthy achievements and changes as we reflect on the past Rotary Year. I believe we have reasons to celebrate with pride our enormous accomplishments in the last Rotary Year and we look forward with enthusiasm to the new Rotary Year 2021/2022 at the Rotary Club of Jalingo Prestige".

 

Rotn. Yusuf recollect with ecstasy the projects which were successfully executed by the Club in last year as he attribute the achievements to the selfless Ratorians and Donors who were seated at the event. As put In his words, "In the last Rotary year, together we were able to Charter this prestigious club on the 14th day of August 2020 with 25 active members. We were able to turn up for the District Governors Investiture in our numbers in Ilorin, Kwara state on the 12th September 2020. In the same vein, we fully participated in the World Polio Day celebration on the 24th October,2020 where we planted numerous trees as monuments to mark the day".

"We fully participated in the Rotary family Health Days Medical Outreach which ran through the 19th to the 21st of November 2020 at Kona Community of Jalingo.
In the furtherance of our community development project, we were able to construct a two-room modern water system toilet and rehabilitated a four-room block of toilets all in Government secondary school, Jalingo. The projects were commissioned on the 30th June 2021. We also mounted two Club's signpost close to the two Jalingo City Gates and had them commissioned on the same day, the Charter President said.

However, the incoming President (Change Maker President) Rotn. Jerry Oliver, PHF, overwhelmed with joy in his acceptance speech said, " I am honoured to have you present at the second investiture ceremony of Rotary Club of Jalingo Prestige to commemorate my installation as its Change maker President for 2021/2022 Rotary Year. This gathering today is in itself the gathering of creme-de-la-creme of humanitarians and philanthropists across Taraba state who have been working in their different capacities to impact lives and transform our communities".

 

The President said, the club under him will shift attention to Education and the improvement of other self enhancing projects for our least privileged communities.

According to him, "As you are aware, we are assembled here today not just to install the new President of Rotary Club of Jalingo Prestige but to kick-start the club's Save Education Campaign initiated to encourage school enrolment across the state with the aim to upturn the remark of the negative remark on the state of education in Taraba State after it was revealed by the Minister of State for Education, that Taraba Atate is among the state with the highest number of out of school children during the flag of of Better Education Service Delivery for All (BEADA) in Jalingo, Taraba State recently and to create awareness on the aims and objectives of Rotary Club among our people with the aim of forming partnership with willing organisations" he said.

He further revealed his action plans saying "As I begin my journey of 365 days as a President of Rotary Club of Jalingo Prestige, I wish to call on all present here today to support and donate generously to Rotary so that we can serve humanity better in line with Rotary Seven Areas of focus to promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water sanitation and hygiene, save mothers and children, support education, grow local economics and support the environment".

"In line with Rotary international president 2020/2022 theme of Serve to Change Lives, I see us working together as partners to serve to change lives after the opportunities opened in the last Rotary year" The president concluded. The occasion was spiced with a poem recitation by Joanna Oliver, the daughter of the incoming president who called on parents present at the ceremony to discard their political difference and work for the betterment of humanity.
