Residents Lament Over Three Weeks Blackout in Jalingo

Residents of Jalingo, the Taraba state capital has expressed worry over the lingering total blackout in major parts of the state.

 

Many residents who spoke to newsmen in Jalingo lamented  the continued power blackout stressing that the outage has caused a lot of damage to their businesses.

 

 

A resident of Shavon Deeper Life Camp, Mile 6 Jalingo, Mr Augustine Mic said the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) should as a matter of urgency come out and explain to Tarabans why they is persistent power outage.

 

"For over three weeks now, those of us living in Shavon Mile 6 have not seen what is called light and YEDC cannot come out to tell us of what led to the sudden total power collapse," he said.

 

Also, a resident of NTA area of Jalingo, Alhaji Abubakar Aban said the total blackout for over three weeks has grounded many businesses that are relying on power to earn a living.

 

 

 

He noted that those operating on generators are managing to render skeletal services to the people.

 

He urged the Federal Minister of Power, Engr. Sale Mamman, to as a matter of urgency direct YEDC to restore power to Taraba state.

 

"The minister of power is from this state, and we that know that he will not be happy if he hears that his state is currently facing total power outage," he noted.

When contacted, a staff of YEDC, Taraba state office said that only the Corporate Communication Manager of Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) in charge of Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Taraba states, Mr Kingsley Nkemneme is the only one authorised to speak to the media on the issue.

 

He added that Nkemneme is based in Yola and can only speak whenever he visits Jalingo.
