Court Fixes June 9 for Judgment in Saleh Mamman’s Alleged N33.8bn Fraud Trial

A Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja, has fixed June 9, 2026, to deliver judgment in the alleged N33.8 billion fraud case involving former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman.

Justice James Omotosho adjourned the matter on Thursday after parties adopted their final written addresses in the trial.

Mamman is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 12-count charge bordering on conspiracy and money laundering amounting to N33,804,830,503.73.

At the proceedings, defence counsel, Femi Atteh, SAN, told the court that he had filed his final written address on April 1, 2026, along with a reply to the prosecution’s submission, urging the court to discharge and acquit his client.

In response, prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, informed the court that the EFCC filed its final written address on April 14, 2026, and prayed the court to convict Mamman on all counts.

Oyedepo argued that evidence presented before the court showed that funds were traced from a government account to a Bureau de Change (BDC), which allegedly transferred the money to the defendant.

“Your lordship, what is important is that funds left a government account and went to a BDC account. The operator testified and explained how the money was delivered to the defendant’s residence. A staff member also testified to receiving funds on the defendant’s instruction. The evidence before the court is clear,” he said.

He urged the court to discountenance the defence’s arguments and return a conviction.

Following the submissions, Justice Omotosho adjourned the case to June 9, 2026, for judgment.
