2027: UTCiyya Movement Endorses Garba Umar UTC for Taraba North Senate
A political support group, the UTCiyya Amana Movement, has endorsed former Acting Governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Garba Umar (UTC), as its preferred candidate for the Taraba North Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced on Wednesday in Jalingo during a gathering of stakeholders, supporters, women and youths from across the senatorial district.
Coordinator of the group, Alhaji Babangida Wambai, who read the endorsement message, said the decision was based on Umar’s track record in governance, particularly his contributions to peace, development and leadership during his tenure as acting governor.
He noted that the people of the zone believe Umar possesses the experience and vision required to provide effective representation at the National Assembly.
“The endorsement is in recognition of his achievements and the confidence that he will deliver quality representation for Taraba North,” Wambai said.
Similarly, the Secretary of the UTCiyya Amana Foundation, Comrade Junaidu Gavy Yahwe, called on stakeholders across the district to rally behind Umar, describing him as a leader committed to social justice and inclusive governance.
Yahwe added that the foundation was ready to purchase the party’s nomination form for Umar if he agrees to contest under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to him, Umar’s brief period in office left a lasting impact despite political challenges, noting that he demonstrated capacity and touched lives across the state.
Speaking in response, Umar expressed appreciation for the endorsement and show of support, saying it reflected the confidence the people have in his leadership.
“I am happy that they recognise what I have done and believe in my ability to represent them. I am encouraged by their willingness to support my aspiration,” he said, while pledging to serve with honesty and dignity if elected.
The event witnessed a large turnout of supporters, particularly women and youths, who came out in large numbers to demonstrate solidarity.
The Taraba North Senatorial District comprises six local government areas: Ardo Kola, Jalingo, Karim Lamido, Lau, Yorro and Zing.
