Why I Want To Go To Senate – Ex Gov Jolly Nyame

A former Governor of Taraba State, Rev. Jolly Nyame, has explained why he intends to contest for the Taraba North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, saying the decision was influenced by persistent appeals from supporters across the zone.

Nyame made his intention known during the Sunji Yandang Carnival held in Mayo-Lope, Lau Local Government Area, where he disclosed that youths, women and elders from the northern part of the state had repeatedly visited him to urge him to seek election to the National Assembly.

According to the former governor, the mounting pressure from various groups in Taraba North convinced him to heed the call to serve the people of the zone at the Senate.

"There has been a massive flow of people to my residence, not only youths but also elders and women, urging me to contest the senatorial seat, and I have decided that I will contest," Nyame said.

He acknowledged that the political journey might not be without challenges but expressed confidence that he would overcome any obstacles along the way.

"I know there may be one or two obstacles here and there, but by the grace of God we will overcome them," he added.

The former two-term governor explained that his aspiration to represent Taraba North Senatorial District in the Senate is aimed at building on the development initiatives he pursued while serving as governor of the state.

Nyame noted that his previous experience in leadership would guide his approach if elected to the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

"There is nothing entirely new about what I intend to do. What I offered the people before, I will continue to offer. During my time as governor, I provided infrastructure and mentorship for young people, and if given the opportunity again, I will do even more," he said.

He also called on communities across the northern zone of the state to remain united and continue to promote peaceful coexistence among the diverse ethnic groups in the area.

Nyame further commended the Taraba State Government for its efforts toward improving security across the state and acknowledged the support being provided to state governments by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The former governor urged residents to take advantage of the improving security situation to strengthen unity, encourage development and support initiatives that would bring progress to their communities.
