Congress: 8 Caretaker Committee Members Part Ways With Chairman As Stakeholders Allege Manipulation of Consensus List, Reject Abba Saleh

 

Eight Members of the Caretaker Committee set up by the Wike faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the conduct of party congresses in Taraba State have dissociated themselves from the action of the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Dr Victor Fallack.

Trouble started during the state Congress of the party held on Saturday 14th March 2026 when Dr Victor Fallack came up with a list of the new state executives, making himself the Chairman and assigning some positions to members of the Caretaker Committee.

This is contrary to the election of a new leadership by the majority of the delegates through consensus, with Alhaji Abba Saleh as the new State Chairman.

The reaction of the other members of the Caretaker Committee is contained in a Press Release signed by Terna Anzambe, Hikon Hosea, Hamisu Maigari Gassol, Zubulun Dauda Hamman, Yakubu Balutu, Hauwa Adam Imam, Ali Musa and Polycarp Apura.

"You may wish to note that the Caretaker Committee successfully conducted the ward and local government area Congresses successfully throughout the state.

"However, before the commencement of the state congress on Saturday, 14th March 2026, several politicians trooped into the party following the Appeal Court Judgement.

"Therefore, in the interest of peace and progress of the party, the Caretaker Committee saw the need to allow people who have interest to contest in the state congress.

"Then came the need for give and take between and among the old and the new members as well as balancing the leadership based on fairness and justice.

"Since the major contenders for the governorship position in the party were already indicating interest through their actions, we equally saw the need for balancing in terms of zoning and religious diversity.

"We therefore reached a consensus to allow the position of the Chairman of the party to a Muslim while other positions were equally zoned accordingly.

"While a consensus was reached on the new leadership of the party for the state, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Dr Victor Fallack came up with another list of the state executives, appointing himself the new Chairman and assigning some positions to members of the Caretaker Committee.

"We saw his action as capable of breaching the peace but thank God for the overwhelming majority of the members who stood their grounds.

"We therefore wish to reiterate that we are in support of the new state leadership that emerged from the state Congress headed by Alhaji Abba Saleh.

"Consequently, we, wish to dissociate ourselves from the list being paraded by the former Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Dr Victor Fallack in which, he made himself Chairman and some of us as members of the newly elected state executive committee.

"He single handedly did what he did without consulting any member of the Caretaker Committee.

"We are making this record straight in the interest of our great party and for the peace and stability of our dear state, Taraba.

" It is our duty as party men and women, and citizens of the state to promote peace at all times.

"We want to use this opportunity to thank all our delegates for the matured way they conducted themselves from the wards, local government areas and state congresses".

Taraba PDP Stakeholders Allege Manipulation of Consensus List,  Reject Abba Saleh

The  Grassroots PDP Stakeholders Forum in Taraba State has rejected the newly sworn-in state executives that emerged from the party's recent congress held in Jalingo.

The stakeholders, who spoke through their chairman, Mr. Christopher Kalika, said they were not aware of what they described as a dramatic alteration of the consensus arrangement earlier agreed upon before the congress.

Kalika stated that the list of consensus executives originally agreed by party stakeholders was allegedly manipulated before it was presented at the congress, leading to the emergence and swearing-in of a different leadership.

According to him, the development has rendered the process null and void, insisting that the elders forum does not recognize the newly sworn-in executives led by Alhaji Ibrahim Abba Sale.

"The list of consensus executives submitted to the congress was manipulated," Kalika said, adding that the elders forum was not part of any arrangement that produced the current leadership.

He emphasized that the forum's position remains firmly in support of the earlier consensus arrangement which recognizes the acting state chairman, Dr. Victor Falack.

Thestakeholders forum therefore called on party members and the general public to disregard the newly sworn-in executives, pending what they described as a proper resolution of the matter in line with the earlier consensus agreement.

The development has sparked fresh tension within the Taraba State chapter of the PDP, as party stakeholders await further clarification from the national leadership of the party regarding the outcome of the congress.
