Abel Diah Declares Candidacy

In a swift political development, Rt. Hon. (DCN) Abel Peter Diah, former Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, officially declared his intention to contest for the federal seat. The declaration event, held in Diah's hometown of Vakude, drew large crowds of community leaders, political stakeholders, and supporters from across all three local government areas.

Diah said his decision followed extensive consultations with local leaders, youth groups, traders, farmers, and other residents, who collectively encouraged him to step into the race. "Over time, I have listened closely to the voices of our communities, and I am stepping forward to provide effective, people-oriented representation at the national level," he said.

He emphasized that while the constituency is rich in human and natural resources, it continues to face challenges in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment. "I aim to bridge these gaps and ensure the voices of Gashaka, Kurmi, and Sardauna are heard loudly and clearly in the National Assembly," Diah added.

He also pledged to serve with integrity, transparency, and accountability. "My mission is to champion initiatives that improve livelihoods, create opportunities for our youth, support our farmers, and strengthen community unity and security. This journey is not mine alone; it belongs to all of us," he said, urging residents to support and pray for his campaign.

Political analysts suggest the contest will hinge on grassroots mobilization and who can command loyalty across all three LGAs. "David Fouh's ongoing tensions with those who introduced him to politics may haunt him at the polls. Meanwhile, this is the first time the former Speaker is contesting for an election outside his Mbamga constituency," one analyst observed.
