2027: Group Warns Against Imposition of National Assembly Candidates InTaraba North

 

A political pressure group under the banner Mummy Like Minds has cautioned the Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, against any attempt to impose candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives in Taraba North ahead of the 2027 general elections.

 

In an open message addressed to the governor, the group expressed concern that imposing candidates on the zone could negatively affect the governor's re-election prospects and political support in the area.

 

The group stated that as the 2027 elections draw closer, the governor already enjoys significant political backing from the Mumuye people, but warned that such support could be jeopardized if the wishes of the people of Taraba North are ignored.

 

According to the statement, the current representation of the zone at the National Assembly was described as disappointing, with the group insisting that the people of the area should be allowed to freely determine who represents them in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

 

The group also recalled that during the previous by-election, the governor had requested political support despite being from Taraba South, a request they said was granted in good faith.

 

It argued that any attempt to "impose zero-performing individuals" on the people of Taraba North would be unfair, especially as the governor's own region is already benefitting from what it described as the "dividends of democracy" through its representatives at the National Assembly.

 

The group further warned that such a move could have broader political consequences, including affecting both the governor's re-election bid and the electoral fortunes of the President.

 

While reaffirming their support for the governor, the group urged him to respect the political choices of the people of Taraba North.

 

"We have who we want," the statement concluded, stressing that protecting the interests of the zone would ensure continued political support for the governor.
