Taraba Shines as TSUBEB Chairperson Bags National Recognition for School Sports Development

Taraba State has earned national recognition in the area of school sports development as the Chairperson of the Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB), Mrs. Christiana T. Binga, received a Certificate of Participation and a medal following the state's successful outing at a national school sports event.

The award was presented by the Director of Academic, Alhaji Abubakar Maigari, to Mrs. Binga, alongside Board Member II, Dr. Zachariah John. The presentation was in recognition of her leadership and commitment to strengthening basic education through both academic and co-curricular activities in the state.

The recognition followed Taraba State's participation in the National Basic Education School Sports Competition, known as the BESS Games Bauchi 2025, which held from February 1 to 10, 2026. The competition brought together pupils from across the country and was designed to promote unity, healthy competition and the holistic development of children through sports.

The certificate was issued by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in collaboration with the National School Sports Federation (NASSOF), acknowledging Taraba State's active role in promoting school sports at the national level.

While presenting the award, Alhaji Maigari commended Mrs. Binga's leadership, noting that under her stewardship, TSUBEB has continued to emphasise the importance of co-curricular activities alongside academic excellence. He said sports remain a vital tool for discovering talents, building confidence, instilling discipline and promoting teamwork among pupils.

In her response, Mrs. Binga expressed appreciation for the recognition, describing it as an encouragement to do more. She reaffirmed the Board's commitment to nurturing young talents across the state, promoting inclusive participation and encouraging the girl-child to actively engage in sports.

She added that TSUBEB would continue to support initiatives that foster unity, character development and excellence among pupils through constructive competition.

The recognition is seen as a boost to Taraba State's growing profile in basic education development and a reflection of efforts to provide pupils with opportunities to excel both inside and outside the classroom.
