Obidah Kicks as Wike-Led PDP Faction Appoints Victor Falack Taraba Caretaker Chairman

 

A fresh crisis may be brewing in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State following the appointment of Mr. Victor Falack as Chairman of a 16-member Caretaker Committee by a faction of the party loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

 

The decision, announced by the National Caretaker Working Committee of the faction, was said to have been made pursuant to Article 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution. The announcement, signed by Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed on behalf of the committee, was made available to Taraba Truth and Facts Newspaper.

 

According to the statement, Falack will head a 16-member caretaker committee mandated to manage the affairs of the party in Taraba State in line with Section 21(2)(a-b) of the party's constitution. The committee is to serve for 30 days or until a new State Executive Committee is elected.

 

Other members of the committee include Zebulun Dauda Hamman, Bala Haruna, Hon. Dimas Yahaya Shonvo, Waltako Deita Marafa, Barr. Iliya Bitrus Allurah, Hon. Hosea, Hon. Polycarp Apura, Terna Anzamber, Hon. Markus Haginus, Ite Bulus, Alhaji Idrisibrahim Wurojam, Hamisu Maigani Hassol, Hauwa Adam Imani and Aliyu Yakubu, with Aliyu Musa serving as Secretary.

 

The appointment takes immediate effect, the statement added.

 

However, the Taraba State Chapter of the PDP has swiftly distanced itself from the development, describing the announcement as false, misleading and unauthorized.

 

In a counter statement signed by Comrade HerbertFaith Bello, Media and Publicity Officer of the party in the state, the chapter insisted that it remains duly constituted and firmly under the leadership of Acting Chairman, Hon. Comrade Chief Obidah Bitrus.

 

The state chapter maintained that the purported press release emanated from an unrecognized body with no constitutional standing within the party and was intended to create confusion and unnecessary tension among members.

 

"For clarity, the Taraba State Chapter of the PDP remains duly constituted and firmly under the leadership of the Acting Chairman, Hon. Comrade Chief Obidah Bitrus. The leadership structure remains intact and fully committed to upholding the Party's Constitution and the principles of internal democracy," the statement read.

 

The party urged members and the general public to disregard the caretaker committee announcement, stressing that all official communications would be issued strictly through recognized and constitutionally established channels.

 

Observers say the development underscores deepening divisions within the PDP, as rival blocs continue to jostle for control of party structures across states ahead of future political engagements.
