Jalingo LG Chairman Presents N7.66bn 2026 Budget, Promises Inclusive Development
Speaking at the council chamber in Jalingo, Hon. Dantsoho said the exercise went beyond a constitutional requirement, framing the budget as a covenant between his administration and the people to govern transparently and responsibly.
He explained that the proposal was developed through extensive consultations and needs assessments across all ten wards, incorporating lessons from the previous fiscal year despite prevailing economic challenges.
The total proposed budget for 2026 stands at ₦7,658,559,719.94, balancing ambitious development goals with fiscal realities, while consolidating gains already achieved, the Chairman said.
Anchored on the principles of prudence, accountability, and grassroots inclusiveness, the budget allocates over ₦3.71 billion to capital expenditure aimed at driving infrastructure development and improving residents' quality of life.
Key priority sectors highlighted include road construction and rehabilitation, drainage and street-lighting, primary healthcare upgrades, water supply through boreholes, and sanitation improvements. Other areas of focus include agriculture, youth and women empowerment programmes, public utility support, and collaboration with security agencies to enhance community safety.
Hon. Dantsoho also assured that sufficient provision had been made for recurrent expenditure, including staff salaries, allowances, welfare, and operational costs, stressing that a motivated workforce is essential for effective policy implementation.
The budget, christened the "Budget of Hope and Realization," has been formally submitted to the Legislative Council for consideration and passage, with the Chairman expressing confidence that its successful implementation would stimulate economic growth, strengthen governance, and improve livelihoods across Jalingo Local Government Area.
