New LG Chairmen Take Office as Gov Kefas Charges Them to Prioritize People’s Needs

 

The Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency Dr. Agbu Kefas, has sworn in the newly elected Local Government Council Chairmen of the state.

The ceremony, held on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of TY Danjuma House in Jalingo, was attended by distinguished personalities and stakeholders from across the state.

While administering the oath of office to the 16 council Chairmen, Governor Kefas charged them to prioritize the needs of the people above personal interests. He reminded them that their emergence as leaders was founded on public trust, emphasizing that they are duty-bound to bring progress and development to their communities.

Governor Kefas urged the Chairmen to be transparent, people-driven, and responsive, ensuring that their budgets and programmes reflect the genuine needs of their respective localities. He also called on them to align their vision with his administration's five-point agenda, which focuses on education, security, health, the economy and job creation, women's development, and youth empowerment.

Speaking on behalf of the newly elected Chairmen, the Chairman of Sardauna Local Government Area, Mohammed Umar, expressed gratitude to Governor Kefas and the people of Taraba State for the confidence reposed in them. He assured that the council Chairmen would work closely with relevant authorities to deliver the dividends of democracy at the grassroots.

Shortly after the swearing-in ceremony, the 16 Local Government Chairmen resigned from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and formally declared their intention to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the move was aimed at strengthening governance at the grassroots level.
