Over 5,000 Patients Benefit From Gov Kefas-Funded Free Drugs Programme At Specialist Hospital

The Chief Medical Director of the Specialist Hospital Jalingo, Dr. Alex Mai'angwa, has revealed that more than 5,000 patients have so far benefited from the ongoing free drugs distribution programme at the facility.

Dr. Mai'angwa disclosed this during a monitoring visit to various units of the hospital to assess the progress of the intervention, which began about four months ago.

He described the programme as a major humanitarian effort fully financed by Governor Agbu Kefas from his private resources — not from the state's official budget — with the aim of saving lives and easing the burden of healthcare costs on citizens.

He emphasized that the distribution is carried out without any form of religious, ethnic, or political bias, ensuring fairness and inclusivity for all residents who seek medical care.

Appealing for the initiative to be sustained and expanded, Dr. Mai'angwa praised the Governor's gesture as a clear demonstration of compassion and responsible leadership.

Also speaking, a member of the programme's implementation committee, Hon. Isa Yeros, expressed satisfaction with its smooth operation and urged residents to take advantage of the free services, describing it as one of the tangible dividends of democracy.

Several beneficiaries who spoke to journalists expressed gratitude to Governor Kefas and the hospital management, confirming that they received their full prescription drugs at no cost — a relief many said they could not afford under normal circumstances.
