LG Poll: Nura Dantsoho, Benjamin Bako, Maikomo, Others Make Gov Kefas’ List for PDP Candidates

The battle for who emerges as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in the forthcoming local government council elections in Taraba State has intensified, with Taraba Truth and Facts newspaper exclusively obtaining the list of aspirants favoured to fly the party's flag.

Sources disclosed that the list was approved by Governor Agbu Kefas after wide consultations with stakeholders and party leaders across the 16 local government areas. Those pencilled down have been contacted by the PDP leadership and directed to immediately purchase the party's nomination forms.

According to the exclusive list, the favoured aspirants include Nura Dantsoho for Jalingo, Peter Julius for Lau, Virginia Baba for Karim Lamido, Bala Husseini for Wukari, Benjamin Bako for Takum, Abershi Musa for Ussa, John Moses Maikomo for Bali, Emmanuel Ubandoma for Ibi, and Iki Yahaya for Donga.

In Sardauna, Hon. Mohammed J. Umar was retained, while Hon. Davoro Titus and Hon. Moses Maihankali  were also cleared to return as chairmen in Zing and Kurmi respectively.

For Gashaka, Ardo-Kola, Yorro, and Gassol local government areas, consultations are still ongoing as party leaders are yet to reach a final decision on who gets the nod.

The list reflects a blend of incumbent chairmen and fresh aspirants, with youths securing a significant number of endorsements. However, many sitting council chairmen failed to secure the party's backing for a second term.

With the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC) confirming the election timetable, the PDP's internal selection process has become a fierce political contest across the state. Aspirants left out of the favoured list are said to be lobbying intensively, while others have begun to weigh options of defecting to rival political parties.

Party insiders told Taraba Truth and Facts that Governor Agbu Kefas is determined to inject new energy into grassroots governance by giving opportunities to younger politicians while consolidating the PDP's dominance across the state.

As the November polls draw closer, tension is rising in the camps of aspirants, with many viewing the governor's endorsement as the ultimate ticket to victory in the local government elections.
