How Governor Kefas Ended NLC Strike

The protracted strike action by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Taraba State has been called off following the intervention of Governor Agbu Kefas, who approved the payment of workers earlier classified as "ghost workers."

The strike, which paralysed government activities across the state, was suspended after the governor met with leaders of the Organized Labour and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the T.Y. Danjuma House in Jalingo.

Speaking after the resolution, the Taraba NLC Chairman, Comrade Peter Jediel, confirmed that the governor's directive to pay the affected workers addressed the main grievance of the union.

"We commend the Governor for listening to the plight of our members and taking decisive action to ensure that all legitimate workers are paid their due salaries," Jediel said. "This resolution demonstrates a commitment to fair labour practices and the welfare of Taraba's workforce."

He directed all striking workers to resume duty immediately.

Governor Kefas, while addressing the labour leaders, expressed sadness over the recurrent strikes in the state, describing them as obstacles to Taraba's progress.

"The numerous strikes in the state are disturbing, discouraging, and frustrating our efforts to move forward," the governor said, adding that his administration would continue to pursue dialogue as the best way to resolve disputes.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Sule Abasu, commended the cordial relationship between labour and the present administration but requested a private session with the governor to present their full concerns.

The suspension of the strike has been welcomed by residents and civil servants, who say the development will restore normalcy to government services across Taraba State.
