Taraba Hosts Northeast Scholarship Boards

 

The Taraba State Scholarship Board hosted a key meeting for members of the Northeast States Scholarship Boards in Jalingo, the state capital.

 

In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Taraba State Scholarship Board, Hon. Nura Dansoho, said the aim of the meeting is to share experiences and introduce fresh ideas to improve scholarship programs that benefit students across the region.

 

Declaring the meeting open, the Commissioner of Tertiary Education in Taraba State, Dr. Mike Dior Jen, said education is central to the growth of any society. 

 

He noted that Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas has taken bold steps to improve education in the state by declaring a state of emergency in the sector, as part of this, the governor introduced free education for primary and secondary school students and reduced tuition fees in tertiary institutions by 50 percent.

 

Dr. Mike Dior Jen, explained the government's plan to assist students with opportunities to study abroad through scholarship support. 

 

He stressed that every child deserves a chance to benefit from education, and all efforts to support them will be considered.

 

Speaking on behalf of the Chairman of the Northeast Scholarship Board, Dr. Abubakar Kawu, the Permanent Commissioner one of the Bauchi State Scholarship Board, Barrister Hussaini Saraki, described education as the best gift to give to students.

 

He urged all state boards to work together on a shared platform with a unified procedure to boost development across the Northeast region.

 

Barrister Saraki also raised concerns about the promises made by the Northeast Development Commission to provide scholarships, noting that nearly a year has passed without any action being taken.

 

The Deputy Director, zonal coordinator federal scholarship Board Mrs. Ngozi Obinwa, emphasized the importance of scholarships in shaping future generations, saying that educating one student can uplift an entire generation. 

 

She also appealed to the Northeast Development Commission to fulfill their promises to support students in accessing quality education.

 

The Zonal Director praised Governor Kefas for his continuous support and efforts to improve education in Taraba State.

 

The event brought together key personalities from scholarship boards across the Northeast region, all focused on enhancing student welfare and educational development.
