Tiv, Fulani Leaders Sign Peace Pact at Army-Brokered Talks in Bali

In continuation of its non-kinetic efforts to promote peace and stability across Taraba State and to address the underlying causes of persistent communal tensions and foster mutual trust between the Tiv and Fulani tribes of Bali Local Government Area. The 6 Brigade Nigerian Army has convened a conflict resolution dialogue between the two tribes. The engagement, held at the Brigade Conference Room in Jalingo, was conducted under the directive of the Commander 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/ Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa.

 

In his address, Brigadier General Uwa stressed the critical role of dialogue in resolving disputes and urged all parties to embrace tolerance, forgiveness, and peaceful coexistence. He cautioned community leaders against inflammatory rhetoric or actions that could reignite conflict, stating that sustainable peace is a shared responsibility.

 

He further reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Army to supporting civil authorities through non-violent means, emphasizing that enduring peace can only be achieved when communities actively participate and take ownership of the peace process.

 

The meeting brought together political figures, traditional rulers, youth leaders, and other key stakeholders from both the Tiv and Fulani tribes. It served as a platform to explore practical and lasting solutions to the recurring security issues affecting Bali LGA.

 

Speaking on behalf of the participants, the Executive Chairman of Bali Local Government Area, Hon. Dauda Aboki, commended Brigadier General Uwafor his proactive leadership and reaffirmed the readiness of the local government and community leaders to work closely with security agencies to ensure peace in the area.

 

The high point of the engagement was the signing of a peace pact by all participants. The agreement included key resolutions such as: zero tolerance for criminal elements, respect for the rule of law, promotion of community cohesion, and commitment to resolving disputes through peaceful and lawful means.

 

This initiative highlights 6 Brigade strategic non-kinetic approach and reinforces the central role of inclusive dialogue in achieving long term security and stability across Taraba State.
