No Plan To Change Deputy Governor Till 2027 – Source

Despite speculations surrounding the health of Taraba State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Aminu Alkali, authoritative sources have confirmed there are no plans by Governor Agbu Kefas to replace him before the end of their current tenure in 2027.

A close source within the government told Taraba Truth and Fact that while political interests have begun maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections, Governor Kefas remains committed to working with his deputy until the end of their term.

"The Deputy Governor will complete this tenure, but he is unlikely to run with Governor Kefas in 2027," the source said. "Yes, there has been political speculation around his health, but he is recuperating well and remains in constant communication with his principal. If he eventually resigns on health grounds, it would be entirely his personal decision—no one is pressuring him to do so."

Another source emphasized that while some politicians are strategizing behind the scenes, Governor Kefas has shown no intention to drop his deputy over his current health concerns. "The governor is praying for his deputy's full recovery and has ensured he receives the best possible medical care," the source added.

Meanwhile, the Taraba State House of Assembly on Thursday dismissed claims that it was planning to declare Deputy Governor Alkali incapacitated or initiate any replacement process.

Speaking to journalists in Jalingo, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Nelson Len, described the rumours as baseless. He confirmed that Alkali, who is currently receiving medical treatment in Abuja, is expected to resume official duties once he fully recovers.

"We call on the general public to disregard the speculations that the assembly is preparing to declare the deputy governor incapacitated," Len stated. "None of the three arms of government in the state has taken any step to remove or replace him."

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Alkali has been on medical leave since November 2024, prompting growing concerns over his extended absence.

While some reports had suggested that the current Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly, Alhaji Hamman Adama, might be considered as a replacement, the state government has officially denied any such move, reaffirming its support for Deputy Governor Alkali.
