Mutum Biu Youths Advocate for Chairmanship to Remain in Gassol District

A political youth group under the banner of the PDP Youths Club of Mutum Biu has called for the Gassol Local Government Chairmanship seat to remain in Gassol District 1, citing political fairness and balanced representation across the local government area.

The call comes as the race for the next local government chairman gains momentum ahead of the upcoming local council elections.

Speaking to reporters on behalf of the group, Japheth Dadason and Musa Sani Dan Adda, both leaders of the PDP Youths Club, argued that while there is no formal rotation agreement between Gassol 1 and Gassol 2, fairness demands that the chairmanship remains in Gassol 1, especially since the current commissioner representing the local government at the state level hails from Mutum Biu (Gassol 2).

"For political balance, if the commissioner is from Gassol 2, then the chairmanship should logically remain in Gassol 1. This ensures equal representation and a stronger sense of inclusion among the two major districts," Dadason said.

The group acknowledged the performance of the current commissioner and expressed confidence that having a complementary, resourceful youth leader from the other district could further enhance the implementation of Governor Agbu Kefas' development agenda across the entire local government.

They also emphasized the need for transparency and credibility in the selection and eventual election of the next council chairman, stressing that the political environment in Gassol is "conducive and peaceful."

"Gassol needs strong leadership in both zones to mobilize greater support for the government, especially as we look toward future elections," said Dan Adda. "We must ensure that both Gassol 1 and 2 feel equally represented."

The group urged political stakeholders to maintain the current informal zoning arrangement in order to promote justice, fairness, and unity within the local government area.
