Gassol Forum Rejects Call For Creation Of Badija Chiefdom, Visits Aku Uka In Wukari

The Gassol Concern Forum has strongly condemned recent calls for the creation of a new Badija Chiefdom out of the existing Gassol Chiefdom, describing the move as divisive and potentially disruptive to the long-standing peace in the area.

 Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Aku Uka and Chairman of the Taraba State Traditional Council of Chiefs, HRM Manu Ishaku Ada Ali  in Wukari, Dr. Haruna Hussaini Shumo Gassol, a member of the forum, noted that the majority of Gassol'sindigenous population are descendants of the historic Kwararafalineage. 

He warned that the agitation by some individuals for the creation of the Badija Chiefdom stems from personal interests and could incite tension among communities that have lived in harmony for decades.

"Already, two chiefdoms—Sansani and Kwararafa—have been carved out of the Gassol Chiefdom. Any further fragmentation is unnecessary and could threaten the unity of our people," Dr. Shumo stated. 

He emphasized that those pushing for this move are not acting in the collective interest of the community but are rather motivated by frustration and selfish ambition.

Also speaking, Alhaji Hamman Tukur Kawu Gassol pointed out that aside from Sansani and Kwararafa, another chiefdom known as Vizavi had also been created from the original GassolChiefdom. He described any further attempt to establish new chiefdoms as "uncalled for" and warned that it could fuel division.

In response, the Aku Uka, Manu Ishaku Ada Ali, commended the forum for its initiative in promoting unity and peace. He urged all residents of Gassol to shun violence and continue to live in harmony for the sake of development. "This visit is historic," he said. "Peaceful coexistence in Gassol must be preserved and strengthened."

Earlier, the chairman of the forum, Senator Ibrahim GojeGassol, explained that the purpose of the visit was to strengthen ties between the people of Gassol and Wukari Local Government Areas. "We are committed to preserving our shared heritage and fostering peaceful relations between our communities," he said.
