Group Urges Governor Kefas to Approve Disability Commission Bill, Wants N1.5m Support

The Joint Association of People Living with Disabilities in Taraba State has appealed to Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas to approve the Disability Commission Bill to enable its full implementation.

Speaking with Rock FM in Jalingo, the association's chairman, Mr. Ali Matudi Terikan, stated that the establishment of the commission would play a vital role in eradicating poverty, creating employment opportunities, and improving accessibility to public buildings for persons with disabilities across the state.

Mr. Terikan commended the governor for his strides in upgrading health facilities across Taraba's three zones, promoting free education, supporting agriculture, and enhancing security.

He also appreciated the inclusion of some association members in the governor's cabinet and acknowledged welfare improvements, such as the sponsorship of visually impaired individuals for training at the Nigeria Farm Craft Centre in Lagos.

The association is appealing to the state government for financial support of 1.5 million Naira to assist with its daily operations. Additionally, they are requesting the allocation of a labor house to serve as a safe and inclusive space for members with disabilities.

Mr. Terikan encouraged all members to remain united and committed to the progress of the association and the broader advancement of people living with disabilities in Taraba State.
