·         "I Want to be a Pathfinder" - Nyame Speaks

 

A former governor of Taraba state, Reverend Jolly Tavoro Nyame has declared that he would like to be a pathfinder in the state as he had experienced a lot during his period of incarceration at the Kuje Correctional center, Abuja.

 He made the open declaration on Saturday during a warm reception organised in his honour to welcome his first visit to the state since the presidential pardon granted to him and others on April 14th,2022.

 Reverend Nyame said he was now in a better position to advise Tarabans on which part to take owing to his recent experience that kept him away from his loved ones for about four years.

However many residents of the state who spoke to Taraba Truth and Fact Newspapers at the venue of the reception warned the Former Governor to steer off politics and be careful of desperate politicians hanging around him.

 Shonko Moses from Yorro Town said  that  Reverend Nyame's participation in partisan politics will ridicule the personality of the former governor who is now cherished by all.

 "He has served Taraba state as the Executive governor for eight years and left a good legacy. As the first civilian governor, he laid a very solid foundation and that is why Taraba is still standing today. So we feel as a father and elder Statesman, he needs to shun partisan politics now and rest to play the role of an elder Statesman, someone who will unite the state and preach against corruption in goverance", he said.

 Another close associates to Reverend Jolly Nyame who confided in Taraba Truth and Facts Newspaper explained that some of the politicians who rallying  around the former governor today and are strongly wooing him to support their political ambitions were the ones that plotted against him and they believe such politicians do not mean well for the elder Statesman. "That is why we don't want him to join partisan politics. As it is said, once beaten, twice wise".

 Lagoro Sunday another admirer of the former governor, advised him of the need to be active as a father, of which he has attained, as this will further build the respect that he has achieved among Tarabans and the Mumuye kingdom at large.

 "Jolly Nyame is more of a father to us in Mumuye land, and his joining politics at this time will reduce the respect as this will be determined by the political platform he chooses to align with".

 Steven Sunday from zing local government also called on the former governor to desist from joining any political party, as it is going to affect the political ideology that he has build through the years.

 The former governor said he has no grudges against anybody and has forgiven anyone that was behind his incarceration.

 "My absence for over four years has a divine purpose. God made it possible for me to be away from you for this four years. I now see life differently. I now understand what many people are passing through. I want to say I am in a better position now to advise you Tarabans on which path to take. If I want to assume any responsibility or any position in Taraba state, I would like to be a Pathfinder", Rev. Nyame stressed.

 Nyame was serving a 12-year jail sentence for diverting N1.64bn during his tenure as governor of Taraba, but he was released after spending over four years in the correctional facility.

 " I have no grudges against anybody. I have forgiven all those who were behind my incerceration. Because all I know, God used them for a purpose. I am better of now than before, so why should I grudge? He asked.

 Rev. Nyame appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari and the council of states for granting him pardon. He also appreciated the Taraba state government and individuals who stood by him, facilitated his movement and organized a befitting welcome in his honour.

 Earlier in his remarks, the national president of the Mumuye Cultural Development Association, Dr. Abraham Mokosa, commended the former governor for resilience and patience during the former governor's trying moment. He assured that the Mumuye community will always stand by him no matter what.

 On their parts, the SDP governorship candidate and member house of representatives, Danladi Baido, the speaker Taraba state House of Assembly, Joseph Albasu Kunini, and the TEKAN/ ECWA chairman in Taraba state, Rev. Philip Micah Dohpa, and other personalities who spoke at the occasion felicitated with the former governor and described him as an iconic figure that has come to wipe away the tears of Tarabans.

 They advised him to forgive all who have offended him as Tarabans will now run to him for wise counsel and prayers.
