The 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, and his political ally, Hon. Danjuma Shiddi (popularly known as Danji SS), have reportedly parted ways, according to findings by Taraba Truth and Facts newspaper.
Danji SS, who represented Wukari/Ibi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), defected to the APC to contest the 2023 senatorial election.
However, he lost the election after the Supreme Court affirmed Mr. David Jimkuta as the authentic candidate of the APC for the Taraba South Senatorial District, in the election held on February 25.
According to political observers, the relationship between Senator Bwacha and Danji SS began to deteriorate shortly after the 2023 elections.
Danji SS was quoted as blaming his association with Senator Bwacha for his political misfortune in the 2023 polls.
There are growing speculations that Senator Bwacha has also lost the support of several federal and state lawmakers elected on the APC platform in the last general election.
One of his key allies, Hon. Mark Useni, is believed to have distanced himself from Bwacha's political camp and aligned with Governor Agbu Kefas.
"Everyone knows Mark Useni and Abel Peter Diah were strong pillars of Senator Bwacha in 2023, but they have now abandoned him. You'll always find them around Governor Kefas," a source said.
Danji SS is also said to be displeased with Senator Bwacha and has aligned with a different faction within the APC. Many believe their relationship is no longer what it used to be.
Senator Bwacha has been holding political meetings without the presence of Danji SS and Mark Useni—an absence that many political watchers interpret as a sign that he may have lost control of the Southern Zone, his traditional political stronghold.
Earlier this year, Senator Bwacha was seen visiting many of his old political allies, apparently in a bid to rebuild his base.
Meanwhile, Danji SS currently holds sway over the APC structures in Takum and Ussa local government areas, but there is speculation that the former lawmaker is flirting with another political platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
