ASUU Strike: Students Lament Missing Properties At Taraba Varsity Hostels

Students of Taraba State University Jalingo  are  complaining  that properties and items left in the school hostels are going missing due to strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU enters seven months.

Students who spoke to Taraba Truth and Facts Newspaper said that many items including  gas cylinders, hot plates, foodstuffs, clothes and utensils left behind  inside the hostels were missing.

The disappearance was recently discovered, when some students went to the school to retrieve their properties from the hostel, but met empty lockers and no trace of their stuffs.

Maryam (identity hidden)  said the female hostel of the institution is worse hit wondering how students would cope when ASUU eventually called off his strike.

"Many students who left items in the hostel are complaining that they are missing, my cooking utensils and few clothes are missing from the hostel, my worries is that this strike has been over stretched and its cost on students is becoming more, many of us would have to replace these items coupled with wasted time.

"The security officers attached to the gate of the hostels of the institution said they cannot ascertain the reasons for the disappearance of the students properties which has been happening for some time while the students are away." She said.

Another student  Fauizat said some of the students whose property were stolen cannot understand why the security unit cannot give a concrete reason for their properties, noting that the property has been in their custody and even they the students cannot access it until they signed for approval.

Efforts by this newspaper to speak to officials of the University's Security Unit proved abortive as they say it is an administrative case.
