Judicial Inquiry Panel On Maisamari Commences Sitting In Jalingo

The Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the traditional status of Maisamari and surrounding settlements in Sardauna Local Government has commenced its sitting in Jalingo, the state capital.

 

In his inaugural remarks, the chairman of the commission, Justice Joel Agya said the commission which was inaugurated on the seventh of February twenty twenty two, by Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku is aim at determining the true status of Maisamari and be administered between the two contiguous of Kamkam and Nguroje chiefdoms.

 

He disclosed that the commission is to carefully examine all historical boundaries documents relating to the actual traditional status of Maisamari and which of the chiefdoms it falls within as well as determined the current most appropriate boundary demarcation between Kamkam and Nguroje chiefdoms.

 

Justice Agya noted that the commission is also saddled with the responsibility to determine the remote and immediate causes of the rivalry and confrontation between the two chiefdoms and to determine whether Maisamari is ripe to be created a chiefdom of its own.

 

He added that the commission is to also identify the lapses and lacuna in the instrument establishing the two chiefdoms as well as ascertain the extent of damages and hostility occasioned between the two chiefdoms and make recommendations to the state Government on the appropriate traditional jurisdiction to administer Maisamari and its surrounding settlements.

 

The chairman further expressed the determination of the commission to recommend the state Government the appropriate measures to be taken to restore peace in the area as well as forestalled any future confrontation between the two chiefdoms.

 

He however revealed that the commission has so far received six memoranda, adding that the submission of memoranda close on the 17^th of this month, while the public hearing would commence on the 18^th  of  March 2022 at the Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Jalingo at ten o'clock daily except weekends and public holidays.
