Chief of Attah Ekpan Gets Staff of Office

 

The Taraba State Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku says the elevation of Chiefs in the State was done to enthrone an egalitarian society.

 

The Governor Stated this when he presented Staff of Office to the third Class Chief of Attah Ekpan Chiefdom Joel Yerima Jatau at the Government House Jalingo.

 

He said his administration is poised at strengthening traditional Institutions because of the great roles they play in the maintenance of peace.

 

Governor Ishaku called on traditional rulers to impress on Community policing for the sake of development. 

 

The Governor Stated that since the creation of the State there was a disconnection between the Government and people at the grassroots which made the creation of more Chiefdoms as timely in meeting the yearnings and aspirations of the people. 

 

He said it is incumbent on him to protect the rich cultural heritage of the people for the sake of posterity. 

 

Governor Darius Ishaku promised to present Staff of office to the third Class Chief of Kabri Chiefdom Auwalu Hammanjulde which was delayed owing to administrative issues. 

 

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Bello Yero speaking at the ceremony said the creation of this chiefdom  is another means to bring succor to the people of the chiefdom after many years of yearning for it.

 

 He said since the coming of the Governor over 66 chiefdoms have been created. 

 

Yero called on all the chiefs in the state to promote peace, unity and harmony in their domains as it is the major purpose for which they were chosen to serve their people. He said they must be law abiding and also loyal to the government by staying away from anything that causes rancor in the society. 

 

He congratulated the new Attah Ekpan from Wukari Local Government Area Yerima Jatau and wished him well as he pilot affairs of his domain. 

 

State Chief Judge, Philibus Andetur Represented by Justice Joel Agya administered the oath of office to the third Class Chief of Ekpan Chiefdom Yerima Jatau.
