Taraba State Has Only 11 Computers for NIN Registration- NIMC

The National Identification Management Commission NIMC in Taraba State, says inadequate facility has crippled their operations across the sixteen local government in the state, lamenting that the agency has only eleven computers to register the entire residents of the state for the ongoing National Identification Number NIN

The commission is however appealing  to the state government to assist them with more facilities to enable them carry out their duty effectively.

The state Coordinator of the Commission, Mr. Moses Mamidu made the plea while fielding questions from journalists in Jalingo.

Mamidu who spoke through the (NIMC) State Media Officer, Mr. Ololo Kingsley said the exercise is moving at a slow pace due to inadequate facility and fund.

According to him, the commission has only 11 functional computer systems across the 16 LGAs of the state, pointed out that the Head office in Jalingo has only 2 functional computer systems which are being used to attend to over 500 people.

" The challenges we are facing are enormous and lack of adequate facilities and fund is our major challenge, imagine for the whole Taraba state we only have 11 functional computer systems and only 2 are functioning here in the Headquarters.

"So Taraba state government needs to come in and assist us with an additional facility like it's been done in other states, because it is it citizens that we are serving so that it will ease our work and reduce the difficulties people are facing". Kingsley added.

He said so far, they had received a total of 24,600 cards across the state, out of which they have activated and distributed 15,200 cards to the people.

Commenting on the allegation that some staff of the Commission are extorting residents of the state on the ongoing NIN registration , the spokesperson  warns members of the public to desist from paying NIMC officials to register them.

explained that he may not deny it because he too heard about it

"Let me telling you, people do come here claiming to be our staff and be deceiving people that they will assist them to get their cards quickly and last year we were able to arrest one person who were extorting people in that regards but let me emphasized that the commission does not entertained any form of extortion and they don't collect any payment in cash." Kingsley stated.

However, in an interview, Madam Mercy Ayuba and Madam Hajara Adamu expressed dissatisfaction with the process, saying it is moving at a slow pace and urged NIMC to provide additional centers within the state capital to reduce the difficulties people are facing to get their NIN number.
