Tarabans Are Tired of Unfulfilled Promises, Want Old Politicians Retired — DLA Governorship Candidate
The governorship candidate of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) in Taraba State, Hon. Aboki Stephen Bayonga, has called for the retirement of the state’s old political establishment, saying many residents are dissatisfied with what they perceive as years of unfulfilled promises.
Bayonga, who is seeking to contest the 2027 governorship election, said the state needs a new political direction driven by accountability, inclusive development and practical solutions to the challenges confronting its people.
In a press statement issued in Jalingo by his Director of Publicity, Baba Inusa Tefun, the aspirant said the growing demand for political change reflected concerns over persistent challenges in employment, education, healthcare, infrastructure and agricultural development.
He argued that Taraba’s political journey since the return to democratic rule in 1999 should prompt citizens to assess the performance of successive administrations and demand greater accountability from those seeking public office.
According to the statement, the call to retire the 1999 generation of politicians is not necessarily about age but about their records in office, accessibility to the people and ability to deliver meaningful development.
The DLA candidate also criticised politicians who, according to the statement, become more visible in their communities during election campaigns but are less accessible after securing electoral victories.
It stressed that leadership should involve continuous engagement with the people, transparent decision-making and a willingness to account for promises made during campaigns.
Bayonga has reaffirmed his determination to pursue his governorship ambition under the DLA platform, declaring that he would not step down for any individual, the statement said.
His supporters, according to the statement, believe his candidacy offers an alternative for voters seeking a different approach to governance in Taraba State.
The aspirant identified youth empowerment and job creation, agricultural development, quality education, accessible healthcare, improved infrastructure and transparent management of public resources as key priorities for the state.
He also emphasised the need for inclusive governance that allows communities across Taraba to participate in decisions affecting their welfare and development.
The statement called on voters to use the 2027 election to examine the records, policies and programmes of all governorship candidates before making their choices.
It added that the incumbent administration should be judged on its performance and the extent to which it has addressed the needs and expectations of residents.
The statement maintained that the debate ahead of the 2027 election should focus on measurable achievements and practical policy proposals rather than familiar campaign promises.
Ultimately, it said, the people of Taraba State would determine the state’s political direction through their votes in the 2027 governorship election.
