Ussa Chairman Sustains Joint Security Patrols to Protect Farmers, Boost Food Security

The Executive Chairman of Ussa Local Government Area, Hon. Abershi Musa, has sustained joint security patrols across farming communities and border areas as part of efforts to protect farmers and strengthen food security.

The initiative, driven by a Joint Security Task Force established by the administration, is aimed at safeguarding lives and livelihoods while ensuring uninterrupted agricultural activities in the area.

As part of the ongoing operation, the patrol team carried out an extensive exercise covering the Kwesati/Tati axis through Lissam Pangtso to Kpambo Puri, alongside other strategic locations within the local government.

The team comprises personnel of the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, local vigilantes, hunters, and representatives of the resident Fulani community, reflecting a community-based and inclusive approach to security.

Hon. Musa said the patrols are designed to ensure that farmers can cultivate and harvest their crops without fear of encroachment or disruption, stressing that protecting farming communities is critical to sustaining agricultural production and enhancing food security.

He reaffirmed that security remains a top priority of his administration, noting that sustained patrols, intelligence gathering, and collaboration with stakeholders are key strategies adopted to prevent threats before they occur.

The chairman disclosed that since assuming office, Ussa Local Government has not recorded any farmer-herder conflict, attributing the development to proactive security measures, continuous dialogue with herders, and timely interventions.

He commended the Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, for his consistent funding and logistical support, which he said has strengthened the capacity of the task force to maintain peace across the area.

Hon. Musa assured residents that his administration would continue to prioritise their safety and would not relent in protecting lives and property.

He also appreciated the support of religious leaders, traditional rulers, security agencies, vigilantes, hunters, and the Fulani community for their roles in sustaining peaceful coexistence.

The chairman urged residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant, and to support security agencies with timely and credible information, noting that lasting peace and sustainable development require collective responsibility.
