Tiben Bala Resigns from ADC, Joins APGA Amid Leadership Crisis

— Cites court rulings, uncertainty, and democratic threats as reasons for defection

In a sudden political move, Tiben Bala has officially resigned his membership from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). The resignation, announced today, April 18, 2026, comes amid deepening leadership turbulence within the ADC at both national and state levels.

Bala, in a personal statement, pointed to a recent Federal High Court judgment that voided the party’s state congresses, as well as a Supreme Court ruling remitting the leadership crisis case back to the Federal High Court for fresh determination. He described the lingering uncertainty as politically untenable.

“Remaining without an alternative decision is more of a political suicide,” Bala said, explaining his defection to APGA as a necessary step to secure a viable political platform.

Addressing his supporters, family, and allies, Bala acknowledged the suddenness of the decision but stressed its urgency, noting that “our democracy is under severe threat.” He reassured them that the move was made in their collective interest and that his commitment to leadership change and the aspirations of his constituents remains unwavering.
