1,684 Graduate from Taraba Adult Education Programme

No fewer than 1,684 learners have graduated under the 2026 Basic/Post Literacy and Skills Acquisition Programme of the Taraba State Mass Education Board, marking a significant milestone in the state’s adult and non-formal education drive.

The graduation ceremony, held on May 5 at the NUT Hall, attracted key stakeholders from government, academia and the correctional service, alongside families of the graduands.

Governor Agbu Kefas was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Secondary, Technical and Vocational Education, Augustina Godwin. Other dignitaries in attendance included the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Research) of Taraba State University, Ahmad Baba Muhammad; keynote speaker, Mustapha Baba Ibi; the Comptroller of the Taraba State Correctional Centre; board directors; and members of the press.

The ceremony was laced with cultural dance displays and short playlets, reflecting the diversity and vibrancy of the state.

In his welcome address, the Executive Secretary of the board, Hamidu Usman, said the figure of 1,684 graduates represented participants drawn from various centres across the state. He commended the learners and their instructors for their commitment, noting that the programme continues to provide second-chance education and practical skills to adults.

Usman also lauded Governor Kefas for sustaining the free education policy, which he said has expanded access to learning for adults and out-of-school children.

Delivering the governor’s message, Dr. Godwin urged the graduands not to see the exercise as an end, but as a stepping stone to further learning and self-development. She acknowledged the contributions of ministry officials and staff of the board in achieving the programme’s objectives.

She further called for sustained cooperation among staff to deepen the gains recorded in the sector.

In his closing remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Idris Goje, reaffirmed the board’s commitment to strengthening adult literacy in line with government policy, assuring that more communities would be reached in subsequent phases of the programme.
