UMC Bishop Offers Inclusive Support to Communal Clash Victims in Taraba

The Bishop of the United Methodist Church Nigeria, Ande Emmanuel, has visited victims of the recent communal clash in Balasa community of Karim Lamido Local Government Area, offering both humanitarian support and spiritual encouragement.

The visit, which took place on April 15, 2026, saw the cleric meet with residents affected by the violence, many of whom lost their homes to fire and have been left displaced.

Addressing the victims, Bishop Ande expressed sympathy over the destruction and hardship caused by the crisis, urging affected persons to refrain from acts of retaliation. He warned that revenge could further escalate tensions and undermine efforts to restore peace in the area.

He assured the community of the church’s commitment to providing support within its capacity, particularly in helping victims secure temporary shelter as the rainy season approaches.

“This is a moment for shared humanity,” the Bishop said, stressing that assistance would be extended to all affected persons, regardless of religious affiliation, including Christians and Muslims.

He noted that the intervention reflects the church’s doctrine of compassion and social responsibility, emphasizing the need for unity and collective support in times of crisis.

The Bishop later proceeded to Munga Lelau, where he addressed a congregation, encouraging members to remain steadfast in faith and hopeful despite prevailing challenges.

The visit also included a meeting with leaders of the North East Nigeria Annual Conference of the church, where discussions focused on internal challenges and strategies to strengthen its humanitarian response and mission.

Bishop Ande’s visit comes amid ongoing concerns over the impact of communal clashes in parts of Taraba State, with calls for sustained intervention to support affected communities and restore lasting peace.
