Outrage Over Bwacha Alleged Assassination Plot, Group Demands Probe

Former Senator representing Taraba South Senatorial District, Emmanuel Bwacha, has sparked widespread concern after alleging a plot to assassinate him ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.

Bwacha made the claim on Thursday in Jalingo while formally declaring his intention to contest the governorship on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“I am aware that my contenders are so afraid that they are putting on the table the option of assassinating me,” Bwacha said. “I want to tell them they should be careful and repent, otherwise the judgment of God will come upon them.”

He further alleged that “fifteen young boys” had been assigned to carry out the attack, adding that their identities had been revealed and that they would soon be apprehended.

“The fifteen young boys that were assigned to carry out this assignment, the Lord has revealed them to us, and very soon they will fall into the government’s net,” he stated, without providing specific details.

The allegation has since generated mixed reactions across the state, with political observers warning that such claims could heighten tension if not substantiated.

Reacting to the development, the Agbu Kefas Continuity Movement called on security agencies to immediately investigate the matter, describing the allegation as grave and capable of destabilising the political environment.

In a statement issued on Friday and signed by its Coordinator, Mallam Ibrahim Ardo, the group said Bwacha’s claims must be backed with credible evidence.

“This is not a light allegation. It is grave, sensitive, and capable of triggering fear, suspicion, and instability within the political space,” the statement read.

The group urged the former senator to provide detailed information to security agencies, including the identities of those allegedly involved.

“We call on Senator Bwacha to immediately provide full details of this alleged plot — including the identities of those he accused and any information regarding the so-called fifteen individuals — to relevant security agencies,” it added.

While acknowledging that threats to life must be taken seriously, the group cautioned against making unverified claims that could inflame political tensions.

It noted that Taraba State has largely maintained a peaceful political climate, particularly during the 2023 general elections, and warned against actions that could reverse the trend.

“We do not want a return to a climate of fear or a descent into politically induced violence as we approach 2027,” the statement said.

The group also reaffirmed that Governor Agbu Kefas has consistently promoted peaceful and inclusive politics, urging all stakeholders to uphold the same standard.

Political analysts say the coming days will be critical, as security agencies are expected to respond to the allegations while stakeholders call for restraint and issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections.
