Taraba Veterinary Medical Association Re-elects DrZubairu Adamu Chairman


The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Taraba State chapter, has re-elected Dr. Zubairu Adamu as Chairman, alongside the inauguration of a new set of executives. 

The swearing-in and handover ceremony, held at the Farmers Hall, TADP Complex in Jalingo, brought together key stakeholders in the livestock and veterinary sectors.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the occasion and Special Adviser to Governor Agbu Kefas on Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Zanau Hassan Maikasuwa, charged the new leadership to remain united and intensify efforts to eliminate quackery in the profession. He reaffirmed the state government's commitment to advancing the veterinary sector, noting that the establishment of the Taraba State Livestock Development Commission is aimed at positioning the state as a leading livestock producer in Nigeria.

In his remarks, the re-elected Chairman, Dr. Zubairu Adamu, expressed appreciation to both the Federal Government and the Taraba State Government for their continued support to the livestock sector. He specifically commended Governor AgbuKefas for key interventions, including vaccination campaigns, disease control measures, and the creation of the Livestock Development Commission.

Dr. Adamu noted that his first tenure witnessed notable improvements, particularly in the implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) under the current administration. He pledged to build on these achievements in his second term by completing the association's secretariat and advocating for the continuation of student bond allowances for veterinary students.

In goodwill messages, the Chairman of the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Umar Bakari Dorafi, and a representative of the Taraba State Livestock Development Commission, Gideon Ibrahim, urged the new executives to remain committed to unity and the growth of the association.

The newly inaugurated executives include Dr. Zubairu Adamuas Chairman, Dr. Apang Shinkom as Vice Chairman, and Dr. Saleem Gimba as Secretary General. Others are Dr. Jude Joel Peter (Assistant Secretary General), Dr. Joseph Nwunuji(Financial Secretary), Dr. Babara Ibrahim Musa (Treasurer), and Dr. Elma Fulack (Public Relations Officer).

The event underscored renewed commitment among veterinary professionals in the state to strengthen the sector and contribute to livestock development in Taraba.
