Sardauna Lawmakers Order Arrest of Hunters Group Leader Ahmadu Kaura

The Sardauna Local Government Legislative Council has ordered the arrest of the Commander of the Hunters Group, Ahmadu Kaura, over alleged involvement in criminal activities within the local government area.

The resolution followed the Council's sitting held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, where lawmakers deliberated on what they described as rising security concerns linked to the activities of the Hunters Group operating in Sardauna Local Government Area.

Presided over by the Leader of the Council, Hon. Abdulkarimu Salihu Shum, the legislative session focused on allegations bordering on illegal operations, possession of arms, and questionable authorization by the group and its leadership.

According to the Council, Ahmadu Kaura was formally invited to appear before the chamber to clarify key issues, including the group's mode of operation, the source of locally acquired arms allegedly in his possession, the origin of their operational documents, and the uniforms worn by members of the association. He was also requested to present evidence of official authorization or correspondence from recognised security authorities, including the Taraba State Commissioner of Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA).

However, the Council noted that despite due notice, the Hunters Group commander failed to honour the invitation. Lawmakers described his absence as a disregard for constituted authority and a development capable of undermining public order and security in the area.

Invoking powers vested in it by the Local Government Bye-Laws, the Legislative Council unanimously resolved that the Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) should arrest and detain Ahmadu Kaura within 24 hours for proper investigation of the allegations.

The Council also directed the Executive Chairman of Sardauna Local Government to formally write to the Chief of Mambilla, His Royal Majesty Dr. Shehu Audu Baju II, requesting the immediate withdrawal of the traditional title of Sarkin Bakar Mambilla earlier conferred on Kaura, citing overriding security concerns and the need to maintain public confidence.

The Legislative Council reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law and stressed that all individuals and groups operating within Sardauna Local Government Area must do so strictly within established legal and security frameworks, in the interest of peace and stability.
