Lau Residents Hail Council Chairman Peter Julius Vau Over Projects Within 100 Days

 

 

 

Residents of Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State have commended the Council Chairman, Comrade Peter Julius Vau, for what they described as prudent use of public funds and visible developmental strides within his first 100 days in office.

 

The residents said funds accruing to the local government treasury are now being channelled toward projects that directly impact the lives of the people, noting that the chairman has revived confidence in governance at the grassroots.

They particularly applauded Vau's intervention in the education sector, describing it as a bold step toward rebuilding public trust in government schools. According to them, public education had suffered neglect under the previous administration, forcing many parents to withdraw their children to schools outside the area.

 

Vau, who was sworn in on November 19, 2025, will mark his 100th day in office on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

 

Among key achievements highlighted by residents is the convening of a holistic town hall meeting in Lau, the council headquarters, which brought together religious leaders, traditional rulers, youth organisations, women groups, traders and security agencies to discuss development and security concerns.

 

They also listed the renovation of Lau Central Primary School, now handed over to the school authorities for use, and the construction of additional classrooms at Gerin-Mallam Primary School.

 

Other projects include the cultivation of the Lau Green Garden to boost vegetable production, payment of school fees for 11 students at Na'Ibi School of Nursing, Lau, and the award of scholarships to students of tertiary institutions from the local government area.

 

Residents further cited the revitalisation of the local administrative system, ensuring civil servants are present in their offices to discharge their duties, the rejuvenation of Lau Revenue Services, the elimination of illegal mining activities, and the sinking of a borehole at Atbamga in Garin-Dogo community.

 

Community members observed that illegal mining had contributed significantly to the rising number of out-of-school children, insecurity and environmental degradation in the area before the recent clampdown.

 

Speaking with our correspondent, the Village Head of Kunini, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, said the chairman's peace initiatives have restored stability to troubled communities.

 

"Since the coming on board of Governor Agbu Kefas and Peter Julius as the LG boss, we are experiencing peace. People have started returning to their communities, farmers are back to their farms producing crops for both consumption and commercial purposes. Cases of kidnapping, banditry and armed robbery have drastically reduced," he said.

 

A petty trader, Mrs. Mary Ayuka, praised the cultivation of the Lau Green Garden, noting that the provision of a borehole at the site has ensured all-season farming.

 

"With the borehole, we now have vegetables all year round. Traders no longer travel long distances to source green leaves. It has brought relief to marketers and residents," she said.

 

Beneficiaries of the school fees and scholarship interventions, including Rukkaiyatu Muhammed of Garin-Dogo and Alexander Peter of Kunini, expressed gratitude to the chairman for supporting their education and easing the financial burden on their families.
