2027: Fresh Push For Zoning Gashaka, Kurmi, Sardauna Federal Constituency Seat To Gashaka LG

 

Agitations for equitable representation have intensified in the Gashaka, Kurmi and Sardauna Federal Constituency, as concerned youths and stakeholders renewed calls for the zoning of the House of Representatives seat to Gashaka Local Government Area.

 

The appeal, contained in a statement issued by Samuel Genesis Kurmi on behalf of concerned youths across the constituency, urged political parties, elders and key stakeholders to adopt a rotational arrangement that would allow Gashaka LGA produce the next member of the House of Representatives.

 

Proponents of the move cited what they described as a longstanding imbalance in representation among the three local government areas that make up the constituency.

 

According to data provided by the group, Sardauna Local Government Area has produced members of the House of Representatives for four terms, amounting to 16 years of representation. Kurmi Local Government Area has produced representatives for two terms, totaling eight years.

 

Gashaka Local Government Area, however, has only produced a representative for one single term of four years between 2011 and 2015.

 

The group described the disparity as significant, arguing that the uneven distribution of representation has left many residents of Gashaka feeling marginalized and underrepresented compared to their counterparts in Sardauna and Kurmi.

 

They maintained that zoning the seat to Gashaka would not only correct the imbalance but also strengthen unity, fairness and mutual respect within the constituency.

 

"In the spirit of justice and rotational representation, it is only fair that Gashaka Local Government Area takes its rightful turn in producing the next representative," the statement read. "Justice today ensures unity tomorrow."

 

The stakeholders emphasized that equitable power-sharing would foster peace, enhance cooperation and promote sustainable development across the constituency.

 

They appealed to party leaders, elders, youths and well-meaning citizens to support what they described as a call for fairness, noting that inclusive leadership remains critical to long-term stability and progress in the federal constituency.

 

Political observers say the renewed push may shape internal party consultations and candidate selection processes as preparations gradually begin ahead of the next general elections.
