Taraba IRS, Sanitation Agency Collaborate to Clear Jalingo Main Market Drainages

The Taraba State Internal Revenue Service (TIRS), in partnership with the State Environmental Sanitation Agency (TSESA), has launched a market survey ahead of the ongoing evacuation of drainages at Jalingo Main Market, as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Brigadier General Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa (Rtd.), TIRS Chairman, told newsmen at the market that several meetings had been held with market leadership to discuss complaints, particularly those relating to environmental and drainage challenges affecting traders and shoppers.

Speaking on the intervention, TSESA Chairman, Iliya Kefas, said the agency has a history of involvement in improving market hygiene and is working toward a permanent solution to the drainage problems. He expressed confidence that the collaboration with TIRS would ensure the exercise's success and commended the state government and TIRS leadership for their unwavering support.

Joy Ahbama, Managing Director of I4cus Nigeria Limited, the firm tasked with the evacuation, acknowledged the scale of the work but assured stakeholders that the organization is committed to completing the exercise efficiently.

Alhaji Gamadi Adamu, Chairman of the Traders Association in Taraba State, said traders fully support the government's efforts and commended TIRS for responding promptly to complaints. He noted that the refuse obstructing market drainages originates not only from the market but also from surrounding areas, calling for broader intervention to prevent future blockages.

The exercise, aimed at improving sanitation, traffic flow, and market safety, is part of the state government's ongoing efforts to enhance public spaces and protect the health and welfare of market users.
